Trump-Xi summit yields agreements on Iran, Hormuz and trade
The White House said Trump and Xi held a productive meeting covering economic cooperation, including expanding US business access to Chinese markets and increasing Chinese investment in American industries.
Senior executives from major US companies attended part of the talks. Both leaders agreed on the need to make further progress on stopping fentanyl precursor flows into the United States and increasing Chinese purchases of American agricultural goods.
On the Strait of Hormuz, both sides agreed it must remain open for free energy flows, with Xi stating China’s opposition to its militarisation or any attempt to charge tolls for its use. Xi also expressed interest in buying more American oil to reduce China’s reliance on the strait.
The two countries additionally agreed that Iran must not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.
