Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the US blockade of Iranian ports “an act of war and thus a violation of the ceasefire,” adding that striking a commercial vessel and taking its crew hostage is “an even greater violation.”
He said Iran “knows how to neutralize restrictions, how to defend its interests, and how to resist bullying.”
US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran following a request from Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Trump said Iran’s government is “seriously fractured” and that its leaders need time to produce a unified proposal.
He said the US military has been directed to maintain the naval blockade and remain in a state of readiness, with the ceasefire extended until discussions are concluded “one way or the other.”
