Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a detailed 50-minute phone call discussing the regional situation and peace efforts.
Sharif welcomed Iran’s decision to send Foreign Minister Araghchi to Islamabad, where he held a two-hour meeting with the Prime Minister earlier in the day.
Sharif said his recent diplomatic outreach to world leaders has helped build broader consensus for sustained dialogue, and praised discussions between Iran’s leadership and Field Marshal Asim Munir during his recent visit to Tehran.
Pezeshkian thanked Sharif, Munir, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for their contributions to peace efforts and expressed Iran’s desire for peace and confidence in strengthening ties with Pakistan.
Sharif also conveyed greetings to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, and both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he had a “warm and constructive” phone call with Iranian President Pezeshkian on the regional situation.
He praised Iran’s continued engagement, including Foreign Minister Araghchi’s visit to Islamabad, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to serving as “an honest and sincere facilitator” for lasting peace and stability.
President Donald Trump said he has cancelled the trip of US negotiators to Islamabad, citing “too much time wasted on traveling” and “tremendous infighting and confusion” within Iran’s leadership.
He said “nobody knows who is in charge, including them” and that “we have all the cards, they have none.” Trump added that if Iran wants to negotiate, “all they have to do is call.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called his visit to Pakistan “very fruitful,” praising Islamabad’s mediation efforts.
He said Iran shared its position on a “workable framework to permanently end the war on Iran” but added that he has “yet to see if the U.S. is truly serious about diplomacy.”
Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya joint military command warned that if the US “continues its siege, banditry, and piracy in the region, they can be sure that they will face a response from the powerful Iranian armed forces,” according to Tasnim news agency.
The threat comes nearly two weeks after Trump imposed the blockade in response to Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, with Iranian officials refusing to negotiate until the blockade is lifted.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, in Islamabad as part of ongoing mediation efforts between the US and Iran.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Foreign Minister Araghchi has arrived in Islamabad for meetings with Pakistani officials as part of their mediation efforts to end what he called the “American imposed war of aggression.”
Baqaei said no meeting is planned between Iran and the US, and that Iran’s positions will be conveyed to Pakistan.
US Under Secretary of War Elbridge Colby said President Trump has rightly demanded Europe step up its defense contributions and that NATO “must no longer be a paper tiger.”
He pointed to the Hague Commitments as a starting point but stressed that action is now needed, quoting NATO Secretary General Rutte’s call for “air defense systems, drones, ammunition, radars, space capabilities” to ensure security.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had “an excellent conversation with President Trump,” who is applying strong economic and military pressure on Iran in full cooperation with Israel.
He said Israel has begun a process toward historic peace with Lebanon but that Hezbollah is “trying to sabotage this.”
Netanyahu said Israel is maintaining full freedom of action against all threats, adding “we attacked yesterday and we attacked today” and vowing to restore security to northern residents.
