Kuwait urges global action against Iranian aggression at UN Human Rights Council
Kuwait has issued a stern warning against what it described as continued and blatant Iranian aggression, declaring that international silence in the face of such conduct is no longer acceptable.
Speaking at an emergency session of the UN Human Rights Council โ convened at the request of the Gulf Group and Jordan โ Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen, called on the international community to take a firm and decisive stance to protect regional stability.
Ambassador Al-Hayen stated that Iranian violations have reached an alarming level, undermining years of diplomatic efforts by Kuwait and neighbouring countries to foster good relations and mutual trust, and posing a serious threat to both regional and international peace.
He highlighted attacks on oil refineries, gas fields, and critical infrastructure โ including the recent targeting of Kuwait International Airport โ characterising them as systematic economic aggression designed to weaken nations and derail development.
He further warned that threats to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz violate the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and endanger global food and medical supply chains, in breach of international human rights law.
Reaffirming Kuwait’s commitment to its sovereign right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, he urged member states to support a draft resolution put forward by the Gulf Group, describing it as the minimum legitimate response to the ongoing attacks.
