US forces enforce naval blockade against Iran, redirect 45 commercial vessels

As of the latest update, 45 commercial vessels have been ordered to turn back or return to port as part of compliance enforcement measures.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid reflects on duty, national responsibility
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai shared a reflective message on the true meaning of public responsibility, emphasising that genuine leadership demands selflessness and a commitment to collective success.
He cautioned that any official consumed by personal ambition rather than the broader good cannot be considered trustworthy, and that prioritising individual achievement in public service amounts to a betrayal of national duty.
Sheikh Mohammed stressed that the homeland is indivisible, and that true responsibility means shouldering its burdens in their entirety – rather than becoming one.

US ambassador slams Iran’s election as NPT conference VP amid nuclear stockpile concerns
US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz sharply criticized the decision to elect Iran as one of 34 vice presidents at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty conference, calling it shameful.
He pointed to IAEA findings that Iran holds over 400kg of 60 per cent enriched uranium – a stockpile he argued has no credible civilian purpose – and warned that such appointments give dangerous legitimacy to Iran’s nuclear conduct.
Waltz said the move exemplifies the kind of multilateral dysfunction that erodes American confidence in international institutions.

UAE calls for immediate reopening of Strait of Hormuz, holds Iran accountable
UAE Minister of State Khalifa bin Shaheen Al Marar addressed the United Nations Security Council’s High-Level Open Debate on maritime safety, demanding the immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and calling for Iran to be held fully responsible for its unlawful disruption of international navigation. The session was chaired by Bahrain.
Al Marar highlighted the Security Council’s recent efforts to address Iranian threats to Gulf states and maritime navigation, pointing to Resolution 2817, which explicitly condemned any Iranian attempts to close or interfere with passage through the Strait.
He noted that recent decisions by the IMO and the UN Human Rights Council similarly reflect the international community’s unified demand that Iran cease its illegal conduct and keep the Strait open in line with international law.
He warned that allowing Iran to use the Strait as a political bargaining tool would set a dangerous global precedent, threatening the freedom of navigation in critical waterways worldwide.
Al Marar outlined a range of violations attributed to Iran, including illegal fees imposed on passing vessels, terrorist threats, mine-laying, and discriminatory treatment of foreign ships – all in breach of international law. He stated that the UAE holds Iran fully liable for reparations covering all damages arising from these actions, including environmental harm.
Al Marar stressed that the consequences of the Strait’s closure are already being felt globally, with serious implications for energy security, supply chains, food security, and fertiliser supplies — particularly for nations in the Global South.
He called for collective international action to secure a lasting and sustainable guarantee of free navigation through the Strait.
Prior to the debate, Al Marar joined a press event alongside Bahrain’s Foreign Minister and representatives from over 90 countries, delivering a unified message demanding Iran immediately end its unlawful actions and restore unrestricted transit passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

UAE welcomes IMO resolution demanding Iran halt attacks on maritime vessels
The UAE has expressed its support for a resolution passed by the International Maritime Organisation’s Marine Environment Protection Committee during its 84th session, which calls on Iran to immediately stop attacks or threats targeting commercial ships, port infrastructure, and coastal facilities that risk causing marine pollution through oil spills, chemicals, sea mines, or other hazardous materials.
The resolution flagged serious concerns that such attacks could trigger widespread marine pollution in a region of rich biodiversity, with potentially devastating and long-lasting environmental consequences.
Member states and international bodies were urged to boost cooperation on pollution response and to revisit contingency plans covering the Arabian Sea, Sea of Oman, and the Gulf. The IMO Secretary-General was also invited to track the environmental damage caused by Iran’s activities in the area.
UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, along with the Secretary-General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, stressed that environmental damage in the Arabian Gulf never stays contained to one area, and that protecting these waters is fundamental to the region’s food, water, and economic security.
They condemned attacks on vessels and infrastructure as actions that risk spiraling into an uncontrollable crisis, threatening biodiversity and the livelihoods of millions who depend on fishing and maritime trade.
UAE Special Envoy for Nature Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak echoed this position, affirming that the UAE would continue working with global partners to prevent escalation and protect the region’s vital marine ecosystem, recognizing that environmental security and regional stability are deeply interconnected.

Trump threatens 25% tariff on EU cars over trade deal dispute
President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 25% tariff on cars and trucks imported from the European Union, citing what he described as the EU’s failure to honour an agreed trade deal. He indicated the new tariffs would take effect the following week.
Trump noted that the levy would not apply to vehicles manufactured within the United States, using the exemption as an incentive for foreign automakers to set up production on American soil.
He highlighted that over $100 billion is currently being invested in new automobile manufacturing plants across the country, which he described as a record-breaking development, with those facilities set to open in the near future.

UAE backs Bahrain’s sovereignty amid regional tensions
UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan has voiced the UAE’s unconditional support for Bahrain’s sovereign decisions aimed at protecting its security and national integrity.
He emphasised that any efforts to destabilize Bahrain are viewed as a direct threat to the broader Gulf region.
Sheikh Abdullah underlined that Bahrain’s security is inseparable from that of the UAE and fellow Gulf states, reaffirming Abu Dhabi’s unwavering backing for all steps Bahrain takes to preserve its stability and national sovereignty.

Bahrain rejects Iran’s interference in internal affairs
Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly dismissed recent remarks made by Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, calling them a blatant violation of sovereignty and the principle of non-interference.
Bahrain labeled Iran’s claims as baseless and accused Tehran of deliberately misrepresenting its lawful domestic measures as human rights abuses for political purposes.
The ministry described the move as part of a long-standing pattern of Iranian meddling in the affairs of neighboring states, warning that such behavior destabilises regional security and contradicts international law.
Bahrain called on Iran to respect the UN Charter, halt its inflammatory rhetoric, and stop interfering in other nations’ internal matters.
