Dubai lawyer warns Iranian control of Hormuz toll regime would amount to a global energy tax
Dr. Habib Al Mulla, a prominent Dubai-based legal figure, cautioned that even a modest Iranian toll regime at the Strait of Hormuz would effectively function as an unconsented tax on global energy, with importers, manufacturers, and consumers worldwide bearing the cost and having no legal recourse.
He said Iranian control of the strait is a direct threat to global energy security, supply, and stability.

Pakistan facilitates return of 22 Iranian crew members from seized ship as U.S. confidence-building measure
In a U.S.-backed confidence-building gesture, Pakistan has facilitated the evacuation of 22 Iranian crew members from the seized container ship MV Touska to Pakistan, where they will be handed over to Iranian authorities.
The ship itself will be returned to Pakistani territorial waters for repairs before being transferred back to its owners.
Pakistan said the move was coordinated with both Washington and Tehran, and reaffirmed its commitment to mediation and regional dialogue.

Netanyahu vows to expand Israel’s military independence with new aircraft, domestic munitions production
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is acquiring two squadrons of F-35 and F-15IA fighter jets, bolstering air superiority he said was demonstrated in Operations Rising Lion and Roaring Lion.
He stated that Israeli pilots are capable of reaching any point in Iranian airspace and are ready to do so if needed.
On the defense industry front, Netanyahu announced a 350 billion NIS investment over the next decade to build domestic munitions manufacturing capacity, reducing reliance on foreign suppliers, alongside plans to develop Israeli-made aircraft.
He also revealed he had recently ordered a dedicated project to counter the growing drone threat, with a progress report due imminently.

Iranian parliament’s national security chief warns U.S. that Project Freedom violates ceasefire
Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, warned that any American military interference in the Strait of Hormuz under Project Freedom would be considered a violation of the ceasefire.
He dismissed Trump’s announcement as delusional, asserting that the strait’s maritime regime would not be dictated by social media posts, and rejected any attempts to frame Iran as the aggressor.

UAE Presidential Adviser Anwar Gargash posted on X that the UAE’s rise from modest beginnings to a regionally influential state was built on leadership, vision, and discipline.
He expressed confidence that the country’s resilience and strategic autonomy will carry it through current regional challenges, while continuing to pursue stability and progress.

CENTCOM deploys forces to escort commercial ships through Strait of Hormuz under Project Freedom
U.S. Central Command has begun supporting Project Freedom on May 4, with the goal of restoring free navigation for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz – a critical trade route that carries a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil, along with substantial volumes of fuel and fertiliser.
The mission, ordered by the President, is backed by guided-missile destroyers, over 100 aircraft, unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service members. CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper called the mission essential to both regional security and the global economy.
Supporting the military effort is the newly announced Maritime Freedom Construct, a State and Defense Department initiative designed to align diplomatic and military coordination among international partners in the strait.

Trump announces ‘Project Freedom’ to escort neutral ships out of the Strait of Hormuz
The United States has agreed to help escort ships from uninvolved nations safely out of the Strait of Hormuz, where they have been stranded due to the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict despite having no stake in it, US President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post.
Dubbed “Project Freedom,” the operation begins Monday morning Middle East time and is framed as a humanitarian effort, given that many crews are running low on food and supplies.
The move is intended as a goodwill gesture toward all parties, including Iran, and comes alongside ongoing diplomatic talks that the administration says are showing promise.
The statement warned, however, that any interference with the escort operation would be met with force.
