The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the drone attack on a commercial cargo vessel in Qatari territorial waters, calling it a terrorist act that violated Qatar’s sovereignty and threatened its security and stability.
The ministry expressed full solidarity with Qatar and support for all measures it takes to safeguard its security, describing the attack as a flagrant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which upholds freedom of navigation and prohibits the targeting of commercial vessels. Sri Lanka hikes electricity tariffs 18% from Monday as Middle East war drives up thermal power costs
Sri Lanka will raise electricity rates by 18 per cent from Monday for consumers using more than 180 units per month, as the Public Utilities Commission moves to offset the rising cost of thermal power generation driven by the Middle East war.
Households and religious institutions consuming less than 180 units will be unaffected, while industries, hotels, businesses, and government institutions above that threshold will bear the increase.
The hike follows a 40 per cent tariff rise introduced last month, and comes alongside fuel price increases of more than 35 per cent and rationing measures tied to energy supply disruptions.
Inflation has more than doubled as a result of higher energy prices, reaching 5.4 per cent in April according to official data.
