The Red Sea Film Foundation has announced the postponement of its sixth annual international film festival from 2026 to the fourth quarter of 2027, citing a review of logistical requirements and broader timing considerations for an event of its scale.
The announcement, shared in a formal statement bearing the foundation’s bilingual logo, offered no single reason for the delay, instead pointing to a “comprehensive review” of conditions needed to deliver the festival experience the organisation is known for. The sixth edition was originally expected to take place in 2026.
The foundation said the postponed edition would return with “a renewed vision,” continuing the festival’s programme of films from Saudi Arabia, the Arab world, and internationally.
In the interim, the Red Sea Film Foundation said it would continue its year-round activities, including the Red Sea Fund and Red Sea Labs, which support filmmakers and the wider film industry. A series of programmes based at Jeddah’s historic Jaddah Culture Square are also set to launch in November 2026.
The statement closed with a direct note to filmmakers, partners, and accreditation holders, directing them to the foundation’s website for information on film submission and accreditation fee refunds.
The Red Sea International Film Festival, held in Jeddah’s historic district, has established itself as one of the region’s leading cinema showcases since its launch. The foundation’s sign-off on the announcement: “We meet in historic Jeddah in 2027.”
