Cambridge Health Group has received regulatory approval to expand Cambridge Hospital Al Khobar from 100 to 150 licensed beds, a 50% increase that brings the group’s total licensed capacity in Saudi Arabia to 420 beds.

The expansion takes the group’s combined licensed capacity across the UAE and Saudi Arabia above 700 beds. Cambridge Health Group, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi-listed Amanat Holdings, said it expects that figure to reach around 800 beds once ongoing expansion in Jeddah and additional licensing at its Dhahran facility are completed.

Cambridge Hospital Al Khobar opened in November 2024 and offers specialist long-term care, adult and paediatric rehabilitation, ventilated care, intensive care, home healthcare, and diagnostic services. The group said the hospital has seen strong demand since opening.

“Expanding access to specialist post-acute healthcare remains central to Cambridge Health Group’s long-term strategy. As healthcare systems across the GCC continue to evolve, demand for long-term care and rehabilitation services is increasing, requiring continued investment in specialised clinical capacity and expertise. This milestone reflects our commitment to investing in specialist healthcare infrastructure that supports better patient outcomes while strengthening healthcare systems across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. As we continue to expand, our focus remains on delivering high-quality clinical care and building the GCC’s most comprehensive post-acute healthcare network,” Dr. Ali Saeed bin Harmal Aldhaheri, Chairman of Cambridge Health Group said in a statement.

“Surpassing 700 licensed beds represents an important milestone for Cambridge Health Group and reflects the disciplined execution of our growth strategy. The expansion of Cambridge Hospital Al Khobar enables us to serve more patients while further strengthening our network across Saudi Arabia. With additional capacity planned in Jeddah and Dhahran, we continue to invest in meeting the growing demand for specialist long-term care and rehabilitation services, ensuring more patients have access to high-quality post-acute healthcare,” Wael Abdallah, Group Chief Executive Officer of Cambridge Health Group added.

Post-acute care – covering rehabilitation and long-term clinical services after acute hospital treatment – has historically been underdeveloped in the region relative to primary and acute care, and Cambridge Health Group positions itself as the GCC’s primary operator in that space.
