US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that American forces are actively striking Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, describing the operation as retaliation for two recent Iranian actions.
In the post, Trump said Iran had attempted to place sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, though he added that the waterway currently has no mines, which he said “have been completely removed or detonated.” He also cited an Iranian missile strike on a US military base in Jordan, saying eight missiles were fired and all were intercepted.
Trump warned of further escalation if Iran responds. “If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level,” he wrote, adding that a larger strike was “waiting in the wings” and that, if carried out, “there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
