The Islamic New Year holiday on June 15 gave UAE residents a three-day weekend.
However, residents can look forward to another break in two months.
The next break on the official calendar is Prophet’s Birthday, or Mawlid Al Nabawi, expected to fall on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, corresponding to the 12th of Rabi Al Awwal in the Islamic calendar. As with all Islamic occasions, the date remains subject to official confirmation following moon sighting.
The midweek timing raises the question of whether the Cabinet will apply its holiday transfer rules to move the observance to the start or end of the working week, creating a longer break.
No official announcement has been made yet. Under Article 2 of the Cabinet resolution, most public holidays outside of Eid may be shifted by Cabinet decision; under Article 3, holidays that fall on a weekend or overlap with another public holiday are not carried forward.
After that, UAE National Day falls on December 2 and 3, a Wednesday and Thursday. With the Friday–Saturday weekend immediately following, that creates a potential four-day break to close out the year.
The Prophet’s Birthday marks one of the most observed occasions in the Islamic calendar, typically accompanied by cultural and religious gatherings.
