UK Foreign Secretary and Labour MP for Pontefract, Castleford & Knottingley Yvette Cooper said Britain welcomes the ceasefire extension and wants to see negotiations restart, leading to a comprehensive settlement and the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz “without restrictions or tolls.”
She warned that any return to hostilities “would be a major setback for the region, the global economy and cost-of-living.”
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Trump for extending the ceasefire on behalf of himself and Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying it allows diplomatic efforts to continue.
He said Pakistan will maintain its role in pursuing a negotiated settlement and expressed hope that both sides will observe the ceasefire and “conclude a comprehensive Peace Deal during the second round of talks scheduled at Islamabad.”
US President Donald Trump said Iran is “collapsing financially” and desperate to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the country is “losing 500 Million Dollars a day.”
He said Iran’s military and police are “complaining that they are not getting paid.”
US President Donald Trump said Iran does not actually want the Strait of Hormuz closed but only claims so to “save face” because the US has it “totally BLOCKADED.”
He said Iran wants the strait reopened to recover $500 million in daily losses and that he was approached four days ago with a message that “Iran wants to open up the Strait, immediately.”
Trump said lifting the blockade without a deal is not an option, warning that otherwise “we blow up the rest of their Country, their leaders included.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the US blockade of Iranian ports “an act of war and thus a violation of the ceasefire,” adding that striking a commercial vessel and taking its crew hostage is “an even greater violation.”
He said Iran “knows how to neutralize restrictions, how to defend its interests, and how to resist bullying.”
US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran following a request from Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Trump said Iran’s government is “seriously fractured” and that its leaders need time to produce a unified proposal.
He said the US military has been directed to maintain the naval blockade and remain in a state of readiness, with the ceasefire extended until discussions are concluded “one way or the other.”
