Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director of Christian Dior, has achieved a historic milestone by winning the Designer of the Year award for the third consecutive year at the 2025 British Fashion Awards, held at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Monday, December 1, 2025.
The Northern Ireland-born designer received the recognition for his exceptional work across both his eponymous label JW Anderson and his newly assumed role at the prestigious French fashion house Dior.
A year of unprecedented achievement
Anderson’s extraordinary year has been marked by significant professional advancement. In June 2025, he was appointed Creative Director of Dior, taking creative leadership of both the menswear and womenswear collections, as well as haute couture and accessories for the storied fashion house.
Simultaneously, he has successfully expanded his namesake brand JW Anderson into a lifestyle venture, recently launching homewares and collectibles lines that extend the brand’s reach beyond traditional fashion offerings.
“It’s been a crazy year for me,” Anderson stated while accepting the award on stage, dressed in a sophisticated suit jacket adorned with bright green shamrock embellishments—a nod to his Irish heritage.
A tribute to support systems
In his acceptance speech, Anderson emphasized the crucial role institutions and individuals have played in his rise to prominence. He offered particular gratitude to the British Fashion Council, the organisation behind the Fashion Awards, which has supported him throughout his career.
“I would never be on this stage without the British Fashion Council because I think they leave space for people to be whoever they want to be instead of a business. You can fail. I think without the British Fashion Council, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he remarked.
The designer was supported early in his career through the BFC’s NEWGEN MEN initiative, which provided crucial monetary support and runway show space. This backing proved instrumental in establishing JW Anderson as the award-winning brand it is today.
Anderson also expressed deep gratitude to Delphine Arnault, CEO of Christian Dior, who recruited him to lead the house’s creative direction. “I want to say a massive thank you to Delphine Arnault, who has believed in me from way, way, way back. To be able to work with you is… it’s really fun. I love being at House of Dior because it’s a massive challenge and I love doing it with you,” he shared.
He further credited his collaborator Benjamin Bruno, whom he described as both his “best friend” and a foundational presence since the beginning of his career.
The collaborative vision
Demonstrating his philosophy of collective achievement, Anderson emphasized that his success extends far beyond individual effort. “I am only… I am the showgirl up here,” he joked while on stage. “There is an entire team of thousands of people who work in both companies, and I can’t do it without them.”
Cementing legacy
Anderson’s third consecutive Designer of the Year award marks a remarkable achievement in the fashion industry. His previous wins came in 2023 and 2024 while serving as Creative Director of the Spanish luxury leather brand Loewe, before transitioning to Dior. This hat-trick of accolades solidifies his position as one of the most celebrated and influential designers of his generation, recognized at the highest levels of the international fashion community.
The 2025 British Fashion Awards, presented by Pandora, served as a celebration of excellence and creativity within the fashion industry while raising vital funds through the BFC Foundation to support UK talent through education, grants, and mentorship programs.
