Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the launch of the National Programme to Strengthen Supply Chain Resilience in the UAE.
The programme is designed to boost the country’s economic security and reinforce its long-term capacity for adaptability and sustainability, supporting the UAE’s position in global markets.
At its core, the programme aims to secure the UAE’s requirements for food, medical and industrial goods in the face of challenges affecting global supply chains, the Dubai Media Office said in a statement.
UAE launches National Programme to Strengthen Supply Chain Resilience across food, medical and industrial sectors
It adopts an approach that combines the diversification of import sources, support for local manufacturing and agriculture through private-sector partnerships, and the expansion of international relationships to ensure the continued availability of goods the nation depends on.
The programme also strengthens the UAE’s efforts to address risks facing global supply chains by building a system that guarantees access to commodities and enhances the country’s readiness for regional and global developments.
A central function of the programme is the identification of products that are of priority to the UAE, alongside an assessment of their exposure to import risks. This work feeds into the determination of markets and sources of supply, and the establishment of partnerships aimed at ensuring continuity.
The programme will also explore opportunities to expand agricultural production and local manufacturing within the UAE, while examining investment prospects in sectors that support the long-term sustainability of supply chains.
As part of its scope, the programme will study investment opportunities with countries that are involved in the production of goods essential to the UAE. It will examine scenarios related to these goods and their suppliers, evaluate the feasibility of cultivating or manufacturing products within the country, and broaden partnerships with entities that have the capacity for production and delivery at scale.
The programme represents a step in the UAE’s broader drive to build economic resilience and position itself to respond to shifts in global trade and supply networks.
