Internet users across the world faced connectivity issues on Tuesday afternoon following a Cloudflare outage.
“Cloudflare is experiencing an internal service degradation. Some services may be intermittently impacted. We are focused on restoring service. We will update as we are able to remediate. More updates to follow shortly,” the company said, adding “we are continuing to investigate this issue.”
Cloudflare, which is headquartered in California, provides services to improve the security, performance, and reliability of websites, web applications, and networks.
Cloudflare global outage: 500 errors hit websites, services across the world
The outage affected customers using Advanced Network and Global Edge Security services, as well as those proxying via Cloudflare. Users encountered 500 errors during the incident.
An emailed statement from an IT service management company WP Engine confirmed the extent of the disruption: “Cloudflare is currently experiencing a global outage. If your site uses our Advanced Network, Global Edge Security, or if you’re proxying via Cloudflare, you might see intermittent 500 errors.”
The outage also impacted Cloudflare’s User Portal, which affected live chat support services for customers.
“This is also affecting our own User Portal. This means our live chat support might be unavailable for the moment,” the statement said.
The service provider confirmed that phone support remained operational for customers experiencing emergencies unrelated to the 500 errors.
Service providers confirmed they were monitoring the situation. “Since this is an external issue on Cloudflare’s end, we must wait for them to resolve the core problem,” the statement said. “We are closely monitoring the situation and hope to see stability return soon.”
