Emirates has begun installing a new adjustable headrest in its Economy Class cabins, becoming the first airline to offer the U-Dream headrest at scale. The fitting is already live on three A350 aircraft, with installation continuing across the wider fleet.
“Emirates never rests on its laurels when it comes to customer experience and we have found a way to significantly improve the comfort for Economy Class passengers, especially those travelling long-haul. The U-Dream changes the game if the person wants to sleep – by supporting the neck in full. No more neck pillows needed. It’s another innovation that shows our commitment to customers and cements our Economy Class as the best,” Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline said in a statement.
The U-Dream is built into Emirates’ Z400 seat by Safran Seats. The leather headrest features padded side wings that fold inward to cradle the head and neck, preventing it from dropping forward or to the side during sleep.
It adjusts both vertically and on a tilt, accommodating different passenger heights and body types. The design has been certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
All Emirates A350s will have the headrest installed by the end of this year. The unit will also come pre-fitted across all 270 Boeing 777Xs on order. Retrofit installation on A380s and existing Boeing 777s is scheduled to begin from 2027.
The headrest is cleaned after every flight and cabin crew are trained to help passengers adjust it. Emirates said customer feedback since the initial rollout has been positive.
The announcement comes alongside a broader pitch on the airline’s Economy product, which also includes Starlink connectivity, an entertainment library of more than 6,500 channels, and complimentary multi-course meals.
Emirates said it had logged one million Starlink connections from customers to date.
