Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Police General Headquarters have announced new truck movement restrictions across the emirate, effective October 1, 2026. Emirates Road is exempt from the order.
The restrictions vary by road type. Al Qudra Street, Al Meydan Street, all crossings, and the Airport Tunnel are subject to a round-the-clock ban on heavy vehicles.
Sheikh Zayed Road, Beirut Street, and residential areas including Al Mizhar, Muhaisnah, and Oud Al Muteena carry a 16-hour daily ban running from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Urban roads such as Airport Street, Oman Street, and Damascus Street are restricted during three peak windows: 6:30 am to 8:30 am, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, and 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
Logistics companies whose operations require truck movement during restricted hours can apply through the RTA website for a Mobility Permit for Heavy Vehicles via the Right-of-Way Department.
Alongside the restrictions, RTA has been expanding its network of truck rest stops. Fourteen of a planned 16 stops are now operational across six sites on strategic roads and in logistics areas.
Seven of those sites have had capacity increased by 364 spaces, a 50 per cent rise, bringing the total to 1,007 truck parking spaces. Four further permanent rest areas are planned in partnership with the private sector.
More than 150,000 trucks use the existing stops each month, against approximately 400,000 truck journeys across Dubai daily. The stops offer accommodation, prayer rooms, restaurants, retail outlets, and fuel stations.
RTA said it would run a joint awareness campaign with Dubai Police targeting heavy vehicle drivers, transport companies, and truck owners, covering restriction timings, permitted alternative routes, and rest stop locations.
Drivers were urged to plan routes in advance, use designated rest stops during restriction periods, and avoid parking on main roads, in residential areas, or in undesignated spaces.
