The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has launched the first phase of a Judicial AI Platform developed in cooperation with the Department of Government Enablement.
The department describes it as the first integrated system globally to apply AI in support of judicial and legal decision-making under full human oversight.
The platform’s opening phase centres on a “Judicial Assistant” tool for members of the Public Prosecution and criminal courts. The system analyses specific case types, recommends decisions, and drafts judgments with references to relevant legislation and precedents. AI recommendations are explicitly non-binding: the final call rests with the judicial authority member, and the system is designed not to affect judicial independence.
Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the ADJD, said the launch reflects the department’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies within government, adding that the platform “marks a new phase in ADJD’s digital transformation, combining smart technologies with judicial expertise to improve litigation efficiency and reduce procedural times.”
The current release is the first leg of an 18-month roadmap to complete and broaden the platform across judicial workflows. Later phases will expand AI capabilities and integrate the system with criminal, civil, and other ADJD infrastructure. Planned additions include real-time translation, automated hearing transcription, and tools to detect forged documents.
