UAE drivers are repeatedly neglecting the same basic maintenance checks, according to inspection data from Service My Car, a digital car servicing platform backed by Bahwan International Group.
The company’s analysis of more than 50,000 vehicle inspections identified four recurring issues: delayed oil changes, ignored dashboard warning lights, skipped air conditioning servicing, and driving on worn tyres.
“Regular maintenance is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to keep a vehicle safe, reliable and performing at its best. Our inspection data shows that many of the issues we encounter could have been prevented through routine servicing. By addressing small problems early, drivers can avoid major repairs and enjoy greater peace of mind on the road,” Prem Anand Kumar Nallasamy, Business Head at Service My Car said in a statement.
Oil changes were among the most overlooked items. Engine oil lubricates moving parts, reduces friction and helps manage engine temperature, and delaying changes can cause accelerated wear, lower fuel efficiency and, in serious cases, significant engine damage.
Dashboard warning lights were also widely ignored. Whether the alert relates to the engine, battery or brakes, continued driving without investigation can turn minor faults into major mechanical failures.
AC servicing was the third common gap. Given UAE temperatures, the air conditioning system works harder than in most markets, and neglected systems risk refrigerant leaks or compressor failures that are considerably more expensive to fix than routine servicing.
Worn tyres rounded out the list. Excess tyre wear reduces grip, extends braking distances and raises the risk of failure, especially in summer heat. The company recommends regular tyre inspections and timely replacements.
Service My Car advised drivers to follow their manufacturer’s recommended service schedule and book periodic inspections to catch problems before they escalate.
