Thirteen workers died following an explosion and fire at Qatar’s Barzan Liquefied Natural Gas Plant on Sunday night, the country’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs confirmed.
Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi told Qatar News Agency that the incident was accidental, ruling out sabotage or deliberate wrongdoing. He said the explosion was not linked to any act of terrorism or intentional interference.
Al Kaabi said QatarEnergy’s LNG facilities, Ras Laffan Port, and all logistics operations tied to the energy sector were unaffected, with production and export continuing normally. He also confirmed there were no environmental risks or hazardous material leaks resulting from the fire.
The Barzan Gas Project is one of Qatar’s major domestic gas developments, designed to supply the country’s local grid with natural gas.
