DP World has launched Egypt’s first fully integrated Logistics Distribution Centre (LDC) at Sokhna Logistics Park, with Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attending the opening alongside senior government officials and representatives from several international companies.
The launch also marked the first visit to Egypt by Essa Kazim since he took the chairmanship of DP World. Three inaugural customer agreements were signed at the ceremony.
The centre, located inside the Suez Canal Economic Zone adjacent to Sokhna Port, brings together international freight forwarding, port services, warehousing, inventory management, order fulfilment, customs facilitation, and transport coordination under one roof. Value-added services including assembly, packaging, labelling, and product customisation are also available on-site, allowing companies to serve multiple markets while retaining ownership of inventory until final distribution.
“The launch of the project marks a new chapter in our long-standing partnership with this dynamic market. Egypt has been one of our most important investment destinations in the region, and today we reaffirm our confidence in its potential to become a global hub for trade, industry and logistics. Egypt’s first Logistics Distribution Centre reflects our vision of creating an integrated ecosystem that connects ports, logistics and supply chain solutions, enabling businesses to access local, regional and international markets more efficiently. We look forward to expanding our investments in support of the Egyptian government’s vision while strengthening the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy and attracting further investment,” Kazim said in a statement.
The three founding customers illustrate the range the facility is targeting. A Kenya-based tea exporter handling around 1,000 TEUs annually into Egypt will use the LDC as a regional inventory hub for markets across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
A major consumer goods distributor will run operations covering eight markets spanning Saudi Arabia, the Levant, and the Horn of Africa, supported by a dedicated temperature-controlled facility within Sokhna Logistics Park.
The third is a German multinational specialising in fibre-optic cables and digital infrastructure, which will use the centre to strengthen distribution and re-export across Egypt, North Africa, and the GCC.
“The launch of the LDC at Sokhna Logistics Park strengthens Egypt’s trade and logistics capabilities by enabling businesses to position inventory closer to customers and serve multiple markets from a single regional hub. The integrated model improves efficiency and flexibility while reinforcing Egypt’s role as a strategic gateway connecting Asia, Africa and Europe,” Mohammad Shihab, Executive Vice President, Egypt and Levant, DP World added.
DP World says it has invested more than USD 1.4 billion in logistics infrastructure across Egypt to date, covering the expansion of Sokhna Port, the development of Sokhna Logistics Park, and a cold chain facility currently under construction.
