Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Holding Community Management have begun construction on two pedestrian bridges on Palm Jumeirah, with both structures due to open before the end of 2027.

The first bridge will be built near Shoreline, at the Palm’s entrance, and is scheduled for completion in June 2027. The second, at Golden Mile adjacent to its retail frontages, follows in October 2027.

Each bridge will span 40 metres and will be fitted with lifts to serve senior residents and people of determination. Their design is intended to complement the Palm’s existing streetscape.

Together the two structures will have a combined capacity of 2,700 pedestrians per hour, which the RTA says exceeds current demand while providing headroom for future growth. Around 16,000 residents are expected to benefit directly. The authority projects a 50 per cent reduction in vehicle waiting times at surrounding intersections once both bridges are operational.

“The project reflects the strategic partnership between RTA and Dubai Holding to enhance the integration of infrastructure and road network projects with major developments. It also builds on the ongoing cooperation between the two parties to develop road networks and infrastructure serving major developments through integrated traffic solutions that respond to current and future growth requirements, improve connectivity between areas and key facilities, enhance safety and accessibility, and support sustainable urban development across the emirate,” Hussain Al Banna, Chief Executive Officer of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency said in a statement.

“At Dubai Holding Community Management, we take a long-term approach to the communities we create, continually investing in infrastructure that responds to the evolving needs of residents and visitors. The new bridges will enhance accessibility and connectivity across Palm Jumeirah, while supporting safer pedestrian movement and smoother traffic flow. This reflects our commitment to creating future-ready communities that put people and their everyday experience at the centre,” Francis Gianni, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding Community Management added.

The bridges will replace existing at-grade crossings and form part of a broader package of Palm Jumeirah traffic improvements that includes additional acceleration and deceleration lanes at six locations. That work falls under an agreement signed between RTA and Dubai Holding in March 2025 covering 15 areas and development projects across Dubai.

The announcement also comes with a safety milestone: Dubai’s pedestrian fatality rate fell by 98 per cent between 2007 and 2025, while the number of pedestrian bridges and underpasses in the emirate grew from 26 in 2006 to 178 by end of 2025, a rise of approximately 585 per cent.
