Al Ain’s airport has been renamed Tahnoun International Airport, adopting the IATA code AAN as Abu Dhabi’s second international gateway looks to deepen its role in regional connectivity and economic development.

The facility has served the Al Ain region and surrounding communities since 1994. Over three decades it has built connections across the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, supporting trade flows, tourism, and cargo activity. It currently handles more than 120,000 passengers annually and operates around the clock across 16.7 square kilometres.

Infrastructure at the site includes a 4,000-metre runway capable of accommodating large passenger and cargo aircraft, more than nine apron positions, and dedicated passenger, cargo, VIP, and VVIP facilities.

A 2,000-square-metre cargo terminal anchors what the airport describes as a rapidly developing regional cargo hub. The site also houses maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations, alongside several commercial and defence pilot training academies.

The rebrand comes with an eye on what lies around the airport rather than just within it. Approximately five million square metres of development-ready land surrounds the facility, with the airport positioning that land as investable ground for logistics, manufacturing, technology, energy, and hospitality projects.

The framing aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader push to distribute economic activity beyond the capital into the Eastern Region.
