UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan marked Flag Day on Wednesday by raising the national flag at Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi, joined by 55 individuals drawn from across sectors of public and professional life.
The number was deliberate: each participant represented one year since the UAE’s founding in 1971. The ceremony included a performance of the national anthem and concluded with group photographs.
“To mark Flag Day, I was honoured to raise the UAE flag at Qasr Al Hosn alongside 55 accomplished individuals from various sectors, representing the 55 years of our Union. As we reflect on the journey begun by the late Sheikh Zayed and his fellow Rulers, we look with confidence to our people, whose ambition and determination will continue to drive the UAE’s progress and prosperity,” Sheikh Mohamed said in a statement.
The President described the UAE’s people as its most valuable asset and the source of its strength. The selection of participants was framed as recognition of talent and excellence, and of each individual’s contribution to the country’s development.
