Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirmed on October 9 that King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was struck by two separate attacks the previous day, one targeting airport infrastructure and a second hitting a Saudi Arabian Airlines aircraft on the ground.
Emergency and security teams responded immediately under established contingency plans, GACA said in an official statement. Three Saudi citizens were killed in the attacks.
A number of other people, described as citizens and residents of various nationalities, sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe and were transferred to hospital for treatment. The statement also noted material damage to facilities without specifying the extent.
GACA said it is coordinating with security agencies to assess the full scale of damage and implement protective measures for passengers and staff. Airport operations resumed following the incidents, with air traffic returning to normal, the authority said.
