Portugal are through to the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Croatia 2-1 on Friday in a round of 32 tie that went to the wire.
Croatia took the lead through Ivan Perišić in the 53rd minute, only for Cristiano Ronaldo to level from the penalty spot in the 68th. The winner came deep into stoppage time, when substitute Gonçalo Ramos headed home in the 90th+4 minute to send Portugal through.
Next up is a heavyweight Iberian derby. Portugal face Spain on Monday at the Dallas stadium in what will be one of the standout fixtures of the round of 16.
