US President Donald Trump announced via a post on Truth Social that the American military successfully rescued two service members from inside Iran in separate operations, describing them as “one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in US History.”
Trump said a US colonel who had been behind enemy lines in the mountains of Iran, being “hunted down” by Iranian forces, has been rescued and is “safe and sound” after sustaining injuries. He added that a second pilot had been rescued the previous day, with the earlier operation kept secret to avoid jeopardising the second rescue.
Trump said dozens of aircraft armed with “the most lethal weapons in the world” were sent at his direction to retrieve the colonel, with the Commander in Chief and military leadership monitoring the officer’s location around the clock.
He described the successful completion of both rescues without a single American killed or wounded as proof of “overwhelming air dominance and superiority over the Iranian skies,” adding that it marks “the first time in military memory that two US pilots have been rescued, separately, deep in enemy territory.”
Trump closed with a Easter message, saying: “We will never leave an American warfighter behind. God bless America, God bless our troops, and Happy Easter to all.”
