Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a project to construct road connections across 18 residential areas in the emirate, covering a total length of 13 kilometres. The project included traffic enhancements, roadside parking spaces, pavements, and street lighting in the designated areas.
The RTA stated that the initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to meet the demands of urban expansion and population growth in Dubai through road and infrastructure development projects.
According to the authority, these efforts aim to enhance the emirate’s urban landscape, improve residents’ quality of life, and achieve standards of traffic safety, ensuring Dubai‘s roads remain among the most efficient for users.
Dubai upgrades roads in Mirdif, Jumeirah, Al Barsha and 15 other areas
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, said the new connections improve road connectivity and facilitate vehicle access to and from residential areas through the paving of previously unpaved roads.
He noted that this has improved traffic flow and reduced journey times by up to 40 per cent in those locations, while providing road users with a smoother and safer driving experience.
Al Shehhi added that the project reflects RTA’s vision to be “The World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility.”
“RTA implemented the project according to a phased timeline designed to cover the 18 residential areas, namely Al Khawaneej 1, Al Barsha South 1, Nad Shamma, Jumeirah 1, Za’abeel 1, Al Rashidiya, Muhaisnah 1, Al Barsha 1, Al Hudaiba, Al Quoz 1, Al Quoz 3, Al Satwa, Al Twar 1, Mirdif, Umm Ramool, Umm Suqeim 1, Al Mizhar 1, and Al Mizhar 2.”
The authority added that it continues to advance traffic flow, improve operational efficiency, and enhance road network performance through the implementation of traffic solutions and improvements aimed at increasing vehicular capacity and ensuring smoother traffic movement across Dubai’s road network.
