Dubai Police impounded 218 vehicles and issued 518 traffic fines in October alone as part of a continuing crackdown on vehicle noise across the emirate.
The figures were released by Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, who said specialised smart devices and field enforcement teams are both being used to detect violations.
The campaign targets two categories of offenders: owners whose vehicles have been illegally modified and drivers of sports cars who deliberately rev engines or use public roads and residential streets to draw attention.
Brig. Juma bin Suwaidan was direct on the latter. “Monitoring operations carried out by specialised smart devices, alongside field enforcement teams, resulted in the impounding of 218 vehicles and the issuance of 518 traffic fines last October, as part of ongoing efforts to curb this phenomenon and enhance traffic discipline,” he said, adding that Dubai Police would take strict legal action against violators without leniency or exception.
The penalties are substantial. Driving a vehicle that causes noise carries a fine of AED 2,000 and 12 traffic points. Making unauthorised changes to an engine or chassis carries a fine of AED 1,000, 12 traffic points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. Under Decree No. 30 of 2023, releasing an impounded vehicle costs AED 10,000.
Dubai Police said it is expanding the number of smart noise-monitoring devices and deploying them at additional locations across the emirate.
Brig. Juma bin Suwaidan noted that loud vehicle noise does more than irritate other road users. It affects the psychological wellbeing of residents and disrupts sleep, particularly for children, the elderly and those who are unwell.
Residents can report noise violations through the ‘Police Eye’ service on the Dubai Police smart app or by calling 901.
