Dubai Police have launched a pedestrian safety campaign across police station jurisdictions throughout the emirate, targeting both walkers and drivers in an effort to cut traffic accidents.
The initiative is organised by the General Department of Police Stations in cooperation with the General Department of Traffic. Officers have been deployed on field visits within their respective jurisdictions to offer pedestrians practical guidance on safe road crossing, including the use of designated crossing points, adherence to traffic signals and staying alert while crossing.
Brigadier Majid Sultan Al Suwaidi, Director of the General Department of Police Stations, said the campaign forms part of Dubai Police’s broader road safety work. “Road safety is a shared responsibility. Everyone has a role to play in following traffic regulations and helping create safer roads for all,” he said in a statement.
The campaign also addresses motorists, calling on them to reduce speed, stay alert to pedestrian movement and yield to walkers at designated crossings, with particular emphasis on busy and densely populated areas.
Brig Al Suwaidi reminded pedestrians that Article 89 of the Federal Traffic Law carries an AED 400 fine for crossing at undesignated locations or ignoring pedestrian signals at intersections.
