Emirates will operate a second daily Airbus A350 between Dubai and Colombo from 8 August, upgrading flight EK648/649 from a Boeing 777 and bringing the total number of A350 services on the route to two.
The airline currently runs four daily flights to Colombo using a mix of A350s and Boeing 777s. With the August change, two of those four will be A350s, both featuring a Premium Economy cabin, effectively doubling the number of Premium Economy seats available on the route each day.
Flight EK648 departs Dubai International Airport at 16:10 and arrives at Bandaranaike International Airport at 22:10. The return, EK649, leaves Colombo at 02:55 and lands in Dubai at 05:50. All times are local.
Emirates introduced the A350 on the Colombo route in March 2025, when it also launched Premium Economy in the Sri Lanka market. The cabin is configured in a 2-3-2 layout, with seats offering 19.5 inches of width, a 40-inch pitch and an 8-inch recline. Each seat has a 13.3-inch personal screen and a six-way adjustable headrest.
The service includes a welcome drink, seasonal menus, an amenity kit, a blanket and a pillow, with priority boarding and a dedicated check-in area at DXB. Baggage allowance is 35kg.
The A350 fleet features 4K and 4K HDR touchscreens, faster Wi-Fi and wider aisles than the aircraft it replaces. Emirates describes the cabin as one of the quietest twin-aisle environments in commercial aviation.
The airline says it marks 40 years of operations to Colombo this year, connecting the city to close to 140 destinations across its network.
