Emirates has introduced what it describes as a first-of-its-kind Comprehensive Travel Cover product, developed with insurance provider Travel Guard, that extends protection into conflict zones and remains valid even when governments advise against travel.
The policy bundles standard benefits — trip cancellation, baggage loss or delay compensation, unlimited worldwide medical cover and emergency evacuation — with newly added conflict-specific provisions. Those include reimbursement of conflict-related medical expenses up to US$25,000 and a free trip extension of up to 30 days. Crucially, the cover does not lapse when a government issues a travel warning for the destination, a restriction that typically voids conventional travel insurance.
On the disruption side, Emirates is committing to airline-managed hotel accommodation when airspace closures or similar events ground passengers, and will rebook affected travellers on other carriers at no extra cost when its own services are cancelled due to conflict-related disruption.
“Listening to customer feedback, we realised that travel demand remains strong but there was a gap in the market with regards to travel insurance cover. Therefore, we acted to address our customers’ needs. Together with Travel Guard, a leader in the global insurance industry, Emirates is pleased to offer an enhanced travel insurance product that is as comprehensive as it is reassuring for a wider range of situations. With strong demand for travel in summer, we are proud to offer our customers added confidence in planning their journeys to and through Dubai when they book with Emirates,” Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline said in a statement.
“Our long-standing collaboration with Emirates is grounded in a shared commitment to elevating the customer experience. By combining our strengths once again, this new comprehensive travel product offers enhanced protection that sets a new benchmark in the industry and responds to the needs of today’s travellers,” Russel Antonio, Head of Global Business & Partnerships, Travel Guard added.
The product is available from today on emirates.com at the point of booking, or can be added to existing reservations through Manage Booking. It is offered in 27 markets, including the UAE, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Bahrain, Kuwait and Singapore. Pricing was not disclosed, though the airline described the premium as “accessible.”
The launch comes ahead of the summer travel peak, and sits alongside existing customer-facing policies including free date changes on tickets booked from 2 April and a 24-hour fare hold at no charge.
