President Donald Trump declared Iran’s military “a complete and total mess,” claiming its navy and air force have been completely defeated and no longer exist. He described Iran as “the bully of the Middle East” and said that era is over.
Trump warned that Iran has taken too long to negotiate a deal that he said would have been favourable to them, and that the country would now face consequences for the delay.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned what it described as Iranian terrorist attacks targeting Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan using missiles and drones, calling the strikes a flagrant violation of the three countries’ sovereignty and a threat to their security and stability.
The ministry expressed the UAE’s full solidarity with its three neighbours and pledged support for all measures aimed at preserving their security and stability.
President Donald Trump announced that Iran shot down a US Army Apache helicopter while it was patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz, saying he had been informed of the incident by the military.
He confirmed that both pilots are safe and uninjured, but made clear that a response was unavoidable, stating that the United States must, of necessity, respond to the attack.
Bahrain’s General Command of the Defense Force announced that Iran has carried out missile and drone strikes targeting civilians in the kingdom, describing the attacks as part of a systematic and hostile campaign. The military said its air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a number of the strikes.
The General Command warned the public to avoid touching any suspicious objects or debris left by the attacks, saying Royal Field Engineering Unit personnel are on standby to safely handle such material.
Bahrain’s military condemned the strikes as a blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law, saying the deliberate targeting of civilians and private property with missiles and drones is indefensible. It added that all weapons and units remain at the highest level of defensive readiness to protect the kingdom, praising its forces for their combat readiness and vigilance.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi warned that foreign forces operating near Iranian territory are at constant risk from human error, accidents, or being caught in crossfire.
He said the best way to reduce that risk is for them to leave the region, while reiterating that Iran prefers diplomacy but is capable of responding in other ways.
US Central Command announced it began launching self-defence strikes against Iran at 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, on the orders of the Commander in Chief.
CENTCOM described the mission as a proportional response to what it called unjustified Iranian aggression, following the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter the previous day.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi issued a stark warning to the United States on Tuesday, saying Iran’s armed forces would leave no attack or threat unanswered.
Despite what he described as battlefield defeats, he accused Washington of testing Iran’s resolve.
Araghchi told American forces to leave the region if they wished to remain safe, invoking the history of the Persian Gulf as a warning, saying it contains “many chapters on dire fates of intruding outsiders.”
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s parliament, issued a thinly veiled threat on Tuesday, saying Iran prefers diplomacy but is far more fluent in other languages.
He warned that any breach of commitments would prompt a shift to what he called Iran’s stronger suit, adding: “You ride the horse you saddled.”
Two US Army crew members were rescued by American forces on June 8 after their AH-64 Apache helicopter went down near the coast of Oman while on a regional patrol. The soldiers were recovered within approximately two hours and are reported to be in stable condition.
The rescue operation was led by US Naval Forces Central Command and the 82nd Airborne Division, with support from US Air Force and Navy units including the 5th Fleet’s Task Force 59. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said he is deeply alarmed by the renewed escalation across the Middle East, calling for an immediate stop to all attacks and full respect for existing ceasefires in Lebanon, Iran, and Gaza.
Guterres also expressed serious concern over Israel’s decision to close crossings into Gaza, urging their immediate reopening to allow humanitarian aid to flow freely throughout the territory.
He stressed that navigational rights must be respected in accordance with international law, and that all parties must take every feasible precaution to protect civilians. The UN chief concluded by reiterating that there is no military solution to the region’s conflicts, and urged all sides to pursue diplomatic solutions in the interest of regional and international peace and security.
