Key points

  • RTA has activated around 40 air-conditioned rest stops for delivery riders
  • Facilities include cooling, water dispensers, charging points, and bike parking
  • Sites selected using operational data from Dubai's busiest delivery zones

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has declared all air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders fully operational as temperatures begin to climb. Around 40 facilities are now active across the city, covering areas including Hessa Street, Al Khawaneej, Al Barsha, Al Satwa, Oud Maitha, Al Karama, and Arjan.

Site selection was based on operational data and a study of the city’s busiest delivery zones, carried out in coordination with delivery companies. Each rest area offers air-conditioning, water dispensers, and phone charging stations, with space for approximately 10 riders at a time and dedicated parking for delivery motorcycles.

The RTA said the exteriors were designed to limit direct sunlight and improve thermal insulation without reducing visibility. Maintenance and preparatory works across all sites have been completed ahead of the season.

“Traffic safety remains RTA’s highest priority, in line with our ambition to make Dubai a world leader in this field. We have developed an integrated governance framework for the delivery sector that ensures effective oversight across Dubai and contributes to continuously raising service standards,” Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at RTA said in a statement.

The RTA cited the sector’s rapid growth, driven by rising consumer demand for delivery services, as part of the rationale for investing in purpose-built infrastructure for riders.
