Gianni Infantino has proposed an external review of how FIFA operates, telling council members and national associations in a letter that the process would “recommend potential improvements” to the way the governing body is run.
The proposals would examine the division of authority over major decisions, including the respective roles of the president, bureau, council, and congress, as well as ways to improve transparency and accountability across the organisation.
Ahead of a council meeting next month, Infantino said he would also put forward a consultation on strengthening FIFA’s decision-making, covering the president’s role and what he described as “practical ways to strengthen transparency, participation and accountability in major strategic initiatives.”
The letter also addressed the FIFA Forward Enterprise, a proposal that had drawn scrutiny from member associations. Infantino said the initiative “remained a proposal, not a decision, and was always subject to the necessary approvals of the Council and the Member Associations,” adding that “it has now been withdrawn and will not proceed.”
