Gold is set to close July with its first monthly gain in five months, despite a modest pullback in spot trading on Friday morning.
Spot gold fell 0.2 per cent to $4,096.29 per ounce as of 01:07 GMT, according to WAM. US August gold futures moved in the opposite direction, rising 0.1 per cent to $4,094.10 per ounce. The metal is tracking a weekly gain of around 1.1 per cent.
Elsewhere in precious metals, silver held steady at $58.98 per ounce. Platinum dropped 1.3 per cent to $1,638.97, while palladium edged down 0.2 per cent to $1,301.94.
