Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the Sensory Rooms project at Al Satwa and Oud Maitha Bus Stations to improve the mobility experience for People of Determination, with a focus on children with autism.
The initiative supports the RTA’s goals of elevating customer happiness by delivering services for all segments of the community. It also reflects efforts to strengthen the authority’s reputation and maximise the use of space across its facilities to deliver services that focus on the customer.
The project aligns with the vision of Dubai’s leadership to deliver services that improve the comfort and well-being of People of Determination and their families, the Dubai Media Office said in a statement.
Dubai bus stations now feature sensory rooms for children with autism
The RTA has optimised its facilities, transforming them into service points that add value. This approach reinforces its commitment to responsibility by leveraging technology and innovation to create an environment that supports participation with dignity and well-being.
The sensory rooms are environments designed to balance relaxation and stimulation according to the needs of children with autism. They feature a suite of elements, including lighting at a low level that creates a calming atmosphere, alongside swings that support comfort.
The rooms also incorporate effects that use audio and visuals, including music, scenes from nature, and visuals in colour, helping to reduce stress on the senses.
The RTA has been awarded the Autism-Friendly Environment Certificate by the Dubai Autism Center, recognising its implementation of the project and fulfilment of the Autism-Friendly Programme requirements. The achievement highlights the RTA’s commitment to transport that is accessible to all.
It enhances quality of life and supports Dubai’s vision of a city that is friendly to People of Determination, offering mobility that is safe, comfortable, and sustained.
