The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has begun advanced works on a seven-bridge development linking Abu Dhabi’s Ramhan and Jubail Islands to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed highway (E12), with completion targeted for 2027.

The project covers 166,000 square metres and carries a budget of AED 872 million. Alongside the seven bridges, the scheme includes three tunnels and a network of ramps, roads, and utility corridors designed to improve road capacity and ease traffic flow in the surrounding area.

Eisa Mubarak Almazrouei, Director General of Infrastructure Development at the DMT, described the development as part of a broader push to open up the emirate’s island geography to economic activity.

“This sophisticated construction project represents an important part of Abu Dhabi’s evolving transportation network, facilitating access to Ramhan and Jubail Islands while unlocking new development zones and economic opportunities. The initiative exemplifies DMT’s strategic approach to creating integrated, livable communities that enhance quality of life and support the emirate’s rapid expansion,” he said in a statement.

The project also carries an environmental commitment. LED lighting will be used across the infrastructure to cut energy consumption and reduce light pollution.

The DMT also says approximately 90 per cent of construction waste, equivalent to more than 2,200 tonnes, will be recycled during the build.
