SpaceX has announced plans to build a large-scale spaceport in Louisiana, with a projected cost of at least $100 billion.
Construction on the site is scheduled to begin in 2027. The facility is designed to handle thousands of launches per year using Starship, the vehicle SpaceX is developing for missions to the Moon and Mars.
Elon Musk, the company’s owner, said the site would eventually house more than 12 launch towers, enabling more than 30 Starship flights per day and making it the largest launch facility on Earth.
SpaceX said on its website that it intends to carry out the first Starship launch from Louisiana in 2029.
