Gold retreated on Thursday as investors locked in gains after the metal hit its strongest price in over two months, pulling back from a sharp rally in the prior session.
Spot gold was down 0.6% at $4,495.69 per ounce as of 03:31 GMT, having earlier reached $4,525.79, a level not seen since 2 June. The move came after a jump of more than 4% in Wednesday’s session. US gold futures edged up 0.2% to $4,553.30.
Among other precious metals, silver gained 0.2% to $67.07 per ounce in spot trading. Platinum fell 1.3% to $1,802.29, while palladium slipped 0.2% to $1,328.06.
