Egypt opened the Grand Egyptian Museum at the foot of the Giza Pyramids on Saturday, hosting 79 delegations from around the world for the ceremony.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Entissar El-Sisi attended the opening in Cairo. The guest list included 39 heads of state, monarchs, and leaders, alongside prime ministers, ministers, and representatives from the Arab League, the African Union, and the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations.
The museum is now the largest archaeological facility in the world dedicated to a single civilisation. It houses more than 100,000 artefacts from thousands of years of Egyptian history.

The museum displays the complete collection of treasures from King Tutankhamun. This marks the first time all items from the collection have been shown together in one location. The design combines elements from Egypt’s past with features from contemporary museum architecture.
President El-Sisi described the museum as a symbol of the Egyptian people’s history during his address at the opening.
In his address, President El-Sisi called the museum a powerful, symbolic embodiment of the Egyptian peopleโs civilisational journey. He stressed that Egyptโs heritage has always been a profound source of inspiration for humanity. The President affirmed that the inauguration of this landmark underscores the Egyptian people’s unwavering commitment to building a future founded on knowledge and peace.
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities stated that the opening sends a message of peace and civilisation from Egypt to the world. The ministry said the event reflects Egypt’s approach to incorporating culture and heritage into its plans for development.
The opening positions Egypt as a destination for culture and innovation, according to the ministry.
