Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, visited the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi in the Saadiyat Cultural District this week, where he was briefed on the museum’s collections, interactive exhibits, and immersive experiences spanning the history of the universe, Earth, and life over millions of years.
During the tour, Sheikh Mohammed viewed rare meteorites and fossils alongside reimagined scenes of Abu Dhabi’s natural environment, and met with the museum team for a commemorative photo at the close of his visit.
Speaking at the museum, Sheikh Mohammed said that investing in museums is an investment in humanity’s future, fostering awareness among future generations and enabling them to shape it with a deeper understanding of the past.
He pointed to the UAE’s museum sector as a reflection of the country’s growing commitment to its cultural and heritage institutions, and described museums as playing a vital role in preserving the nation’s heritage and connecting it with the wider world.
He also spoke to the role museums play in documenting the UAE’s journey and achievements, preserving the legacy of previous generations, and providing a foundation for future ones to build on.
The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi takes visitors through 13.8 billion years of natural history, making it one of the more ambitious cultural additions to the Saadiyat Cultural District in recent years.
