Telecom operator du suffered a major service disruption on Wednesday morning, with customers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi reporting widespread problems making voice calls.

Complaints began surfacing around 7:00am UAE time, according to Downdetector, which tracks telecom outages globally.

The platform recorded a sharp spike in reports: 71 per cent of users cited problems with voice calls, 14 per cent flagged weak mobile signal, and 8 per cent reported mobile internet issues. Du’s own app displayed a message acknowledging the problem and asking customers for patience while the team worked on a fix.

“du has carried out a planned system update to improve network performance. Call services are now fully restored and operating normally. The du app is expected to be available again shortly,” the company told Lana Time in a statement.

Not all services went down. SMS, mobile data, and social media remained largely functional, and du’s internet calling service Botim continued to work, offering customers an alternative way to reach each other during the disruption.
