His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, turns 77 today.
Sheikh Mohammed was born on July 15, 1949. He is the third of four sons of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. His brothers are Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
His birthday comes in a year that also marks two decades since Sheikh Mohammed became Ruler of Dubai. He assumed the role on January 4, 2006, after the death of his brother, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
On January 5, 2006, members of the UAE Supreme Council elected Sheikh Mohammed as Vice President of the UAE. On February 11, 2006, he and the members of the Cabinet took the oath of office before the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Al Bateen Palace in Abu Dhabi.
According to the UAE Cabinet, Sheikh Mohammed has overseen the launch of government initiatives since taking office as Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The Cabinet biography said he unveiled the UAE Government Strategy in 2007, launched UAE Vision 2021 in 2010, and launched the National Agenda in 2014 to guide work linked to Vision 2021.
The Cabinet biography also noted that Sheikh Mohammed launched UAE Centennial 2071, a plan covering five decades after 2021, and that the UAE Cabinet has undergone 14 reshuffles under his leadership.
In the second half of 2021, Sheikh Mohammed announced a strategy for federal government work and directed government institutions to adopt the UAE’s “Principles of the 50”, according to the UAE Cabinet.
As Sheikh Mohammed turns 77, his birthday is marked against a public record that spans Dubai’s government, UAE Cabinet work and federal strategies launched during his years in office.
