More than 5,000 passengers reserved seats on the UAE’s national rail network within the first two days of bookings opening, as Etihad Rail’s dedicated app became the most downloaded free app in the country.
The strong early demand comes ahead of the launch of passenger services between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah on June 30, which marks the beginning of what Etihad Rail calls its Introductory Operational Phase.
The network is set to expand from September 30 to include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhaid and Fujairah, with services to Al Dhafra Stations and Sharjah to follow in later phases.
Introductory fares on the Abu Dhabi–Fujairah route start from AED 55 in Comfort Class and AED 120 in Premium Class. Comfort Class offers guaranteed seating, Wi-Fi, power at every seat and generous luggage allowance. Premium Class adds wider seats and complimentary refreshments.
Tickets are available through the Etihad Rail App and a dedicated booking website, where passengers can search journeys, select seats and manage bookings.
“We have designed our offering to provide customers with a combination of affordability, comfort and flexibility, while giving them the freedom to choose the option that best suits their travel needs,” Adhraa Almansoori, Executive Director of Commercial at Etihad Rail Mobility added.
Passenger services will be operated by Etihad Rail Mobility, a joint venture between Etihad Rail and French rail operator Keolis. The network was first announced as part of the UAE’s Projects of the 50, less than five years ago.
