Haiti became the first team knocked out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing 3-0 to Brazil, with Scotland’s defeat to Morocco confirming there was no path back for the Caribbean side.
Head coach Sébastien Migné was candid about where the game was lost. “Perhaps we were a little naive on the first two goals, and after that it was settled — it got harder with every minute that passed,” he said.
Despite the result, Migné spoke with evident pride about what his players had shown. “They proved they deserve to be here at the World Cup. Unfortunately today we played against Brazil and the gap was very large.”
The coach was also quick to frame the elimination in broader context. Haiti had not played at a World Cup for 52 years before this tournament, and Migné said that fact should not be lost in the disappointment of the exit. “We have to keep that in mind. We will respect the supporters. I know I can trust the players.”
Haiti still have one group fixture remaining, against Morocco — the side that reached the semi-finals in 2022. Migné acknowledged the scale of that challenge while setting expectations for how his squad should respond. “In five days we face a team that reached the last four at the previous tournament. We have to make our fans proud.”
