The UAE Government Media Office has confirmed that federal government entities will observe a public holiday for Eid Al Adha from Monday, 25 May 2026, to Friday, 29 May 2026.
Official work is set to resume on Monday, 1 June 2026.
What is Eid Al Adha?
Eid Al Adha, which translates to the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the two most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims across the world.
Eid Al Adha begins on the tenth day of Dhu Al Hijja, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar, preceded by Arafat Day on the ninth day – the most significant day of the Hajj pilgrimage, during which pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat in Makkah.
Eid Al Adha is marked by communal prayers, the ritual sacrifice of livestock and the distribution of meat among family, neighbours and those in need. In the UAE, the occasion is also a time for family gatherings, acts of charity and community events across the emirates.
Shopping centres, tourist attractions and hotels in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other emirates are typically busy during Eid Al Adha, with restaurants and hotels offering Eid food deals and staycation packages.
