UAE customs officers intercepted a drug smuggling attempt at a land border crossing after scanning systems detected unusual indicators in an incoming vehicle.
A manual search of the car, conducted with the assistance of the K9 narcotics detection unit, uncovered 16.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine hidden inside one of the tyres.
The seizure was carried out by the General Directorate of Ports Security, which sits under the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP).
The authority said inspectors grew suspicious of the vehicle as it passed through advanced scanning equipment, prompting a more thorough physical inspection.
ICP said the directorate has recorded 765 narcotics seizures since the start of the year, involving approximately 390 kilograms of narcotics and 50,000 narcotic pills in total.
The authority commended the inspectors for their work and said it remains committed to expanding its detection capabilities across all UAE ports of entry.
