US President Donald Trump has announced the suspension of planned American and Israeli military strikes against Iran, citing a request from Tehran and other Middle Eastern states.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump set out his conditions: a rapid agreement guaranteeing the immediate and full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, alongside a definitive end to Iran’s nuclear programme. He said Israel had also committed to this position.
Trump acknowledged that the United States had been prepared to deploy military force and deterrence on a scale not seen since the Second World War, but said Washington had agreed to call off the attack in the interest of a better future for the world. He called on all parties to move immediately to conclude a deal.
