Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a series of traffic improvements on Latifa bint Hamdan Street, adding road capacity and easing congestion on a corridor that connects several of the emirate’s key arterial routes.
The immediate works centred on two service road sections with a combined length of 1,000 metres: one stretching from the Al Asayel Street intersection to Street 44, and a second running from the National Cement Factory to the First Al Khail Street exit. A new lane was added across both sections, lifting the service road’s capacity from 600 to 1,000 vehicles per hour.
Two U-turns were also built beneath the Latifa bint Hamdan and Al Asayel Street intersection. The RTA said the new U-turns reduced vehicle queues and cut peak-hour congestion by up to 30 per cent.
A separate earlier intervention converted the Latifa bint Hamdan and Nad Al Sheba Street intersection into a single-lane roundabout in each direction, reducing peak delay times by up to 50 per cent.
The street connects Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street and serves residential, commercial and industrial zones across the emirate, making it a significant daily route between different parts of Dubai.
The authority has also awarded the contract for a larger Latifa bint Hamdan Street Development Project, valued at AED 2 billion. The 12-kilometre scheme will create a new corridor linking Sheikh Zayed Road with Emirates Road via Al Khail Road, Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. The project includes seven bridges totalling 2,300 metres and eight tunnels totalling 900 metres.
